MY REVIEW

There's a certain comfort that comes from arriving home at the end of each day after a long day at work.  It's that moment when you know you are home, can enjoy the rest of the evening and have lots of fun.  Every time I pick up a J D Robb book now I get that same feeling of comfort and familiarity, which I love!  On the one hand you have this deeply disturbing story of murder but on the other hand you have characters you are familiar with and are glad to see again. 

As always you have Eve Dallas and many other characters that come up in almost every book I have come across so far.   One of the top things for me when reading a book in this series is that you have the main story of murder but then you have Eve Dallas, her husband and her friends who also have their own lives going on around the murder and with each book I have read so far their stories progress as the books come along, making the characters seem more real. 

As with most of the books I have read in this series, the stories of murder are not easy to read but with the way the story is brought together I do have a lot of fun trying to piece together the parts of the puzzle to try and figure out how the bad person is.  With this one I have to say that I didn't guess who it was, that was definitely a surprise.  A very interesting twist in the story.

MY REVIEW

What I loved about this story...  Despite breaking my cardinal rule over and over again with this series where I always start a series with the first book and never start half way through, this is a series you can definitely dip in and out of anywhere you want.  As with the previous two books in this series, I just loved dipping back into the world of Lieutenant Eve Dallas and following her as she investigates the murder of, this time, many people.  There's a sniper lose and its a race against time to find out who it is before he or she kills again.  What I love the most is actually the fact that we have the same characters popping in and out of each story so we get to know them but there is a different investigation with each book.  I loved the interactions between the characters, you can sense the history with some and the newness in others.

One of these days I will start from book 1 and read all of them but since this is number 43 in the series, I fear it may take me some time!!

MY REVIEW

Oh dear, I can see the beginning of an obsession starting here and do you want to know what the best thing about that is?  This series has over 40 books in it so my addiction to this series can keep going for a very very long time!!  I had first come across this series when I read Obsession in Death (book 40) and Brotherhood in Death (book 42) (which were very kindly sent to me for review).  I loved both of those books so much that I wanted to start from the beginning.  What makes this story unusual from the usual crime books is the fact that it sent in the year 2058, way in the future but is written in such a way that, unless for the smaller details of a machine that reproduces food and drink at the touch of a button and 'links' that people use to communicate to each other, it could really be at any time, any year and the story would still be relevant and good.  

With this first story, I got to see the beginnings of what makes Detective Eve Dallas who she is and why she is so good at her job as well as seeing her in personal situations.  Eve has such a depth to her character that just pulled me in and want to like her instantly.  With the introduction of a love interest, Roarke, this makes Eve (who is usually a very by the book type of person) think and do things she would nor normally.  

The main part of this story is obviously about the murder of a senator's daughter and what happens next.  This was a story that had quite a few twists and turns and although I had a suspicion that I knew who it was who done it there was a further twist which meant that there was more to the story than meets the eye! 

I loved this first book and can't wait to move on to the rest of the series...
